Development of e-waste Recycling
In 1994,
SWICO introduced a recycling scheme for IT and office electronics. At
that time, almost all WEEE
was returned to manufacturers. Since then,
roughly 5000t e-waste has been returned to manufacturers annually. But
the key question was how to encourage private households to return WEEE
properly. With the implementation of collection points for all e-waste
and with the possibility to return WEEE
to all retailes, this question
was answered. From this point onwards, the amount of WEEE
returned has
increased every year. Additionally, in 2003 the possibilty for
companies to return WEEE
directly to recycling companies was
established. In 2006, over 46000t of WEEE
was returned properly by
users.
